How entity type changes your tax
Individuals and HUFs are taxed on a slab basis, with the choice between the Old regime (more deductions, higher rates) and the New regime (fewer deductions, lower rates). HUFs follow the same slabs as individuals but don't get the Section 87A rebate or a standard deduction, since those apply only to individual taxpayers.
Partnership Firms and LLPs are taxed at a flat 30% regardless of income level, with a 12% surcharge once income crosses ₹1 crore — there's no slab structure and no regime choice.
Domestic Companies can be taxed at the regular rate (25% or 30%, depending on turnover), or opt into the concessional Section 115BAA regime (a flat 22%) by giving up most exemptions, or Section 115BAB (15%) if they qualify as a new manufacturing company. Companies under 115BAA/115BAB pay a flat 10% surcharge regardless of income, unlike the tiered surcharge under the regular regime.
